Collections allow you to group related products together so customers can browse by category, theme, or promotion. Instead of presenting every product in a single flat list, collections create a structured catalog that makes it easier for shoppers to find what they are looking for. Collections also appear in email templates and workflow-based product displays.

Types of collections

The HoopAI platform offers two collection types, and each serves a different purpose:

Manual collections

A manual collection is one where you hand-pick exactly which products belong. You control the membership at all times, and products can be added or removed whenever you choose. Manual collections are ideal for:
  • Seasonal promotions — a “Summer Sale” or “Holiday Gifts” grouping where you specifically curate which items are included
  • Themed assortments — “Starter Kits,” “Best Sellers,” or “New Arrivals” where you want deliberate control
  • Campaign-specific groupings — collections tied to a specific ad campaign or email promotion
Inside a manual collection, you can reorder products by dragging and dropping to control the display sequence on your storefront.

Smart collections

A smart collection uses rule-based logic to automatically include any product that matches your defined conditions. Products are added or removed from the collection automatically as their data changes — no manual intervention needed. Smart collections are ideal for:
  • Price-based groupings — “Products under $50” that stay current as you adjust pricing
  • Inventory-based groupings — “In Stock Only” that automatically removes sold-out items
  • Title-based groupings — products whose names contain a specific word or phrase
Smart collection conditions can be based on:
Condition fieldAvailable operators
TitleContains, Does not contain, Is equal to, Starts with, Ends with
Variant titleContains, Does not contain, Is equal to
PriceIs greater than, Is less than, Is equal to
InventoryIs greater than, Is less than, Is equal to
When you save a smart collection, the platform processes the rules in the background and populates the collection within minutes. As product data changes, the collection updates automatically.
You cannot manually add or remove products from a smart collection — membership is determined entirely by the rules. If you need to override the membership, create a manual collection instead.

Creating a collection

1

Navigate to Payments > Products > Collections

Click Payments in the sidebar, then Products, then select Collections from the dropdown or sub-navigation.
2

Click Create Collection

Click + Create Collection to open the collection editor.
3

Enter collection details

Give the collection a clear Name (this appears on your storefront and in internal navigation). Optionally upload a Collection Image — this image can be used as a banner or thumbnail when the collection is displayed. Fill in SEO Title and SEO Description to optimize the collection page for search engines.
4

Choose the collection type

Select either Manual or Smart. This choice is permanent — you cannot change the type after saving. If you need to switch types, create a new collection.
5

Add products or define rules

For manual collections: use the product search to find and add products. Drag handles allow you to reorder them. For smart collections: click Add condition and define each rule. You can combine multiple conditions (all conditions must match, or any condition must match).
6

Save the collection

Click Save. For smart collections, the platform will process rules and populate the collection in the background.

Assigning products to a collection

When editing an individual product, a Collection dropdown allows you to assign that product to an existing collection. A product can belong to multiple collections — for example, a blue winter jacket could appear in “Outerwear,” “Winter Collection,” and “Blue Items.” You can feature specific collections on your storefront by adding a Collection element to any store page in the builder. This lets you create a homepage section that highlights a particular group of products, driving customers to browse curated selections.

Collections in email and automation

Collections are not just for the storefront. You can reference collections in:
  • Email templates — add a product block filtered to a specific collection so subscribers see a curated selection
  • Workflows — use collection membership as a condition or trigger in automations
  • Abandoned cart emails — display products from the abandoned cart alongside related items from the same collection

Managing collections

From the Collections list view, you can:
  • Edit a collection to rename it, update the image, or adjust rules/products
  • Duplicate a collection as a starting point for a new one
  • Archive a collection to remove it from the storefront without deleting it
  • Delete a collection (this removes the collection but does not delete the products themselves)
Use smart collections to maintain “always-accurate” groupings like “In Stock,” “On Sale,” or “Under $25.” Use manual collections for curated or promotional groupings where you want deliberate control over what customers see.
