What is a digital product?
A digital product is any product whose delivery is a file (or set of files) rather than a physical shipment. After a customer purchases a digital product:- The platform processes payment.
- An order confirmation email is sent to the customer containing an Access Downloads button.
- The customer clicks the button and authenticates using OTP (one-time password) sent to their checkout email.
- They are taken to the Customer Access Center where they can download their files.
Supported file types and limits

Setting up a digital product
Create or open the product
Navigate to Payments > Products and create a new product or open an existing one.
Set the product type to Digital
In the product’s variant configuration, navigate to Shipping and Delivery for the variant. Change the shipping type to Digital. This tells the platform that no shipping address or shipping rates are needed for this variant.
Upload digital files
With the variant type set to Digital, a file upload area appears. Click Upload Files and select up to 10 files from your device. Each file can be up to 100 MB. Files can be any supported format listed above.
Set a price
Configure the price for the product as you would any other product — one-time price, a compare-at price for discount display, or a free price ($0) for a lead magnet or sample download.
Enable order confirmation emails
Navigate to Payments > Settings > Notifications and ensure the Order Confirmation Email toggle is turned ON. Without this, customers will not receive the email containing their download link.
Enable store visibility
Toggle Include in online store ON if you want this product to appear on your store’s Product List page.
Mixed physical and digital variants
A single product can have both physical and digital variants. For example, a book could have:- Hardcover — physical variant, requires shipping
- Paperback — physical variant, requires shipping
- Ebook (PDF) — digital variant, file delivered after purchase
How customers access their downloads
Via email: After purchase, the customer receives an order confirmation email. The email contains an Access Downloads button. Clicking it opens the Customer Access Center (CAC) in a browser where they authenticate with a one-time password sent to their checkout email. Via direct URL: Customers can also visityourstore.com/store/account/orders directly and log in with their purchase email to access all past orders and download links.
In the Customer Access Center: The CAC displays all their orders. For each digital purchase, there is a download section where each file is listed individually. All files download as separate files rather than a combined archive — if you want customers to receive everything in one click, package the files into a single ZIP before uploading.
Important notes about digital product delivery
- Digital products in an order are automatically marked as fulfilled the moment payment is confirmed. No manual fulfillment action is required.
- Cash on Delivery is not available for orders containing only digital products. The payment must be completed online.
- Customers must log in to access downloads — they cannot bypass authentication.
- Download links are tied to the customer’s email address used at checkout.
- There is no expiration on download access by default — customers can re-access their downloads at any time from the Customer Access Center.
Protecting your digital content
The HoopAI platform provides basic access control through OTP-based authentication in the Customer Access Center. Customers must verify their email before accessing any files. This prevents unauthorized access but does not prevent customers from sharing files with others after downloading. For higher-security content (such as licensed software or premium courses), consider:- Delivering content through a members-only area with course or membership tools rather than as a store download
- Using watermarked versions of files where practical
- Including license terms in the product description and in a separate file delivered alongside the content
Always test digital product delivery end-to-end in test mode: complete a test purchase, receive the confirmation email, click the download link, authenticate, and successfully download each file before going live.
