</div>

The HoopAI platform's QR code builder walks you through a short, guided flow: name the code, pick a type, enter the required details, customize the design, then download or save. The entire process takes under two minutes for most code types.

## Getting started

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the QR code builder">
    Click **Sites** in the left navigation sidebar, then select **QR Codes** from the submenu. Click **Create QR Code** in the top-right corner of the page. If no codes exist yet, the QR Features landing page offers the same **Create QR Code** option.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the QR code">
    Enter a descriptive name for the code. This name appears in your library and in analytics, so use something that identifies the campaign, location, or purpose — for example, "Spring Sale Flyer — NYC" or "Reception Wi-Fi."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the QR code type">
    Choose from the list of available types. Each type encodes a different action. Once you select a type, click **Next** to continue to the details screen.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the required details">
    Each type asks for specific information. See the type-by-type guide below for what each field requires.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customize the design">
    After entering the content details, the builder shows the customization panel. Adjust colors, dot style, logo, frame, and background. See [Customizing QR codes](/qr-codes/customizing-qr-codes) for the full design guide.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test before saving">
    Use your phone's camera or a QR scanner app to scan the preview displayed in the builder. Confirm the code triggers the correct action before downloading or saving.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Download and save">
    Select a download format — **PNG**, **SVG**, or **PDF** — to export the file immediately. Click **Save** to store the code in your library for future editing and analytics tracking.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Type-by-type creation guide

### Website URL

A website URL QR code opens any web address in the scanner's browser. This is the most common QR code type and works for landing pages, product pages, blog posts, menus, or any external URL.

**Required information:**

* **URL** — the full destination address, beginning with `https://`

After creation you can update the URL at any time from the library without regenerating the image.

***

### Call

A call QR code dials a phone number immediately when scanned. On most devices the phone app opens with the number pre-filled; the user taps the call button to connect.

**Required information:**

* **Phone number** — include the country code (for example, +1 for US numbers)

Use this type on business cards, storefront signs, or service menus to give customers a one-tap way to reach you.

***

### SMS

An SMS QR code opens the scanner's messaging app with a phone number and, optionally, a pre-written message already filled in. The user only needs to tap send.

**Required information:**

* **Phone number** — the number that will receive the message
* **Message** (optional) — pre-fill the body of the message, such as "Hi, I'd like to book an appointment"

This is useful for opt-in campaigns, appointment requests, or customer service contacts.

***

### WhatsApp

A WhatsApp QR code opens a WhatsApp conversation with a specified number. You can pre-fill the opening message to reduce the effort required from the scanner.

**Required information:**

* **Phone number** — the WhatsApp-registered number, with country code
* **Message** (optional) — the pre-filled text that appears in the chat input before sending

***

### Email

An email QR code opens the scanner's default email client with the recipient address, subject, and message body already populated. The user reviews and taps send.

**Required information:**

* **Email address** — the destination address
* **Subject** (optional) — pre-fill the email subject line
* **Message** (optional) — pre-fill the email body

Use this for feedback requests, quote inquiries, or any scenario where a pre-structured email saves the customer time.

***

### Form or survey

A form or survey QR code links to any form or survey you have created in your HoopAI account. When scanned, the device browser opens the form directly.

**Required information:**

* **Form or survey** — select from the dropdown list of forms and surveys in your account

Forms and surveys must be created before they appear in the dropdown. This type is ideal for printed intake forms, event registration, feedback cards, and lead capture on physical materials.

### vCard (contact info)

A vCard QR code encodes contact information in the standard vCard format. When scanned, the device prompts the user to save a new contact with all the details you provided.

**Required information:**

* **First name** and **last name**
* **Phone number** (required)
* **Mobile number** (optional)
* **Email address** (optional)
* **Website URL** (optional)
* **Company name** and **job title** (optional)
* **Address** — street, city, state, country, postal code (optional)
* **Profile image or logo** (optional)

The saved contact works offline after the initial scan. See [vCard QR codes](/qr-codes/vcard-qr-code) for detailed guidance.

***

### Business card

A business card QR code goes a step further than a vCard by creating a mobile-friendly digital card page. When scanned, the browser opens a hosted card showing your full branding, contact details, business hours, and social media links.

**Required information:**

* **Phone number** (required)
* **Email address** (required)
* **Website URL** (optional)
* **Company name** and **description** (optional)
* **Street address** (optional)
* **Business hours** — configure daily open/close times with per-day toggles
* **Logo or photo** (optional, with transparency control)
* **Social media links** — X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube

***

### Wi-Fi

A Wi-Fi QR code encodes network credentials so that scanning it automatically connects the device to the network — no password typing required.

**Required information:**

* **Network name (SSID)** — the exact Wi-Fi network name
* **Password** — the network password
* **Encryption type** — typically WPA/WPA2 (most modern networks)
* **Hidden network** toggle — enable if the SSID is not broadcast publicly

See [Wi-Fi QR codes](/qr-codes/wifi-qr-code) for placement and deployment advice.

***

### Plain text

A plain text QR code displays a message on screen when scanned. No app opens; the text appears in the scanner's QR code reader.

**Required information:**

* **Text** — the message to display (up to several hundred characters)

Use plain text for short notices, product descriptions, ingredient lists, or any information you want to display without redirecting to a URL.

***

### Review link

A review link QR code sends customers directly to your review collection page. You can choose an existing review template from your account and customize the header and footer before downloading.

**Required information:**

* **Review page** — select from your account's review page options
* **Header text** (optional) — customize the call to action shown on the code
* **Footer image** (optional) — add a brand image below the code

See [Review QR codes](/qr-codes/review-qr-code) for a complete guide.

***

### Payment link

A payment link QR code routes directly to a checkout page for a product or service. The buyer scans and lands on the payment form without navigating a website.

**Required information:**

* **Payment link** — select from existing payment links in your account

***

### Funnel

A funnel QR code links to a specific step in a HoopAI funnel. Use this when you want to drive traffic from a printed piece into a specific marketing sequence.

**Required information:**

* **Funnel** — select the funnel and specific page from dropdown menus

***

### Quiz

A quiz QR code links to one of your HoopAI quizzes, opening it in the scanner's browser for immediate engagement.

**Required information:**

* **Quiz** — select from existing quizzes in your account

***

## After creation

Once a QR code is saved, it appears in your library at **Sites > QR Codes**. From the library you can:

* **Edit** the code's destination or design at any time (three-dot menu > Edit)
* **Download** the code in any format (three-dot menu > Download)
* **Move** the code to a folder (three-dot menu > Move)
* **Delete** the code (three-dot menu > Delete)
* **View analytics** by clicking the Analytics tab to see scan counts and trends

<Tip>
  Always test a QR code by scanning it with a real device before distributing it on printed materials. Verify that the correct page or action opens, and that any pre-filled content (messages, email subjects) appears as expected.
</Tip>

<Note>
  When you update the destination of a QR code that is already embedded on a website or funnel page, you must republish that page for visitors to see the updated destination.
</Note>
